Imaging Resource posted that interesting interview with Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki. These are the highlights:
1) Sigma's business is growing and the only issue they have is supply shortage: "we have lots of back orders that we can't catch up on."
2) Mr. Kazuto says "we've received lots of requests from customers to make a larger-sensored (Full Frame) camera." and "we're studying that challenge." And also interesting is that he said that it's easier to keep the pixel pitch, and just increase the die size of the sensor and numbers of Pixels. It would create a real high resolution FF sensor!
3) He also said it's unlikely they will make MFT designed lenses: "If we share the same lens construction for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds, then we can reduce the cost. If we make the lens just for Micro Four Thirds, possibly the price would be higher.". And "The demand for Micro Four Thirds lenses is still fairly low, compared to APS-C or full-frame."
4) About E-mount lenses: "On the other hand, for the Sony E-mount, there aren't so many lenses like Micro Four Thirds, so we get lots of requests."
It would certainly be a bold move to make lenses for the E-mount system!

At the Sony A7m2 presentation in Japan Sony showed the graph you see here on top (Source: DC.watch). it shows how the mirrorless system camera market is growing compared to the DSLR market. The blue bar shows the market percentaga of mirrorless in the system camera market:
- Half ot the system cameras sold in Japan and Korea are mirrorless
- US is the "weakest market" with only 11% of share
- Mirrorless is growing in all amrkets (althaigh at different speeds).
INteresting additional note from Sony: half of the A7/r/s camera owners never owned a Sony camera before those!

As we all know the new E-M6 will be announced in February. It will be the first Olympus camera recording 4K and it replace the E-M5 which has now been discontinued. And today Olympus US dropped the price of the E-M5 down to $559 only (here at Amazon and here at GetOlympus).
This is the detailed description of the new Sony APCS (Active Pixel Color Sampling) sensor. The first of these new generation sensor will be launched in early 2015 on compact smartphones. Larger sensors for Alpha cameras (and Olympus MFT cameras?) are supposed to be launched after.
The new sensor has an electrified color filter that moves horizontally. It takes three exposure pictures (Red-Green-Blue) and merges them into one. The advantages are:
- One single pixel has 100% full color info (Bayer sensors need more pixels)
- Pixels can be larger compared to current Bayer sensors. This means less noise (or more resolution) possible
- Sensor has also Global shutter with very fast frame rates (16,000 at 2K) and no jello effect
- Very high native sensitivity of around 5,000 ISO!
On paper the only drawback is the triple exposure needed to get the full color information. We don't know how this will effect long exposure shots or shots on moving subjects!
SonyAlphaRumors posted that image of a new sensor that will be launched in early 2015. It does get rid of the common Bayer RGB pattern because each single pixel is capable of capture the full color spectrum. It does it by using an electrified moving filter.
SAR writes that design will be used for a 1.5 inch Z4 smartphone first and than used on larger photocamera sensors too. We can expect following advantages:
– Bigger pixels compared to same resolution Bayer sensor. This means more electrons captured and therefore higher dynamic range and lower noise (crazy ISO possible…even crazier than those of the Sony A7s).
– No moire issues anymore. No Anti Aliasing filter needed (increases per pixel sharpness).
– That tech also allows to make crazy high megapixel sensor. For example if you keep an Sony’s APCS pixel size same as the current Sony A7r 36MP RGB pixel size sensor you could in theory make a much higher resolution sensor with same noise level.
– Less pixels to read means also faster processing and readout.
– You actually can have a “full-monochrome” sensor
As usual with those kind of new stuff, we have to see them for real to see how good it works! ....But it looks good on paper :)

Olympus will bet extremely high on a completely new sensor tech when releasing the new OMD MFT camera in January! We have been told Olympus has worked really high to bring a major bump forward in Image Quality. The camera itself also will feature a new design.
It will be the official E-M5 successor but will have little in common with the E-M5....
Only two months to go to see if Olympus will keep the promise!
